Behind the Scenes Comments on Site Maps
Many sites do not have a site map. Spending time with web site developers has made me aware that web site developers value them. Also, Google uses them for search and to index your site. I doubt that most other people pay much attention.
One value of the site map is that you can give your visitors an overview of your site in outline form. For those who like to see everything at a glance, it's very valuable. When building your web site, it's typically the last page you design. That is, the last until you go into the re-design phase!
