The Quintessential Email Service

I chose Aweber because of its reputation, which I had heard about for several years, mainly from Internet marketing professionals. When I first heard about it, I considered that it had more features than I really needed, so I decided to stay with the service I was using. Then I knew I needed to have a more sophisticated way to keep track of my mailing lists.

I started out with my three monthly Ezines, expecting that I would add other lists in time. I still have those three ezines, plus now I have five different sequential message lists, and other lists that help me to manage my contacts.

I'll be honest with you right up front, Aweber is not a snap to get on board with. There's a steep learning curve and lots of information scattered throughout. You'll do well to set up a test list by subscribing yourself and then test, experiment, read, make mistakes and corrections. I suggest that you not put yourself under pressure for your first edition.

If you're transferring a list of names from another service, even though they've double opted-in previously, they'll have to opt-in again so Aweber has a record. Definitely alert your members in advance that they'll have to opt-in again.

Even with some of its awkwardness, Aweber is the best all-round service for keeping track of your contacts in a fool-proof double opt-in system. Follow all their rules, be respectful to your contacts (leads, subscribers, customers, clients), and you won't have a spam problem.

Aweber has knowledgeable support team members who are available 12 hours per day via toll-free phone, live chat, and email to answer your questions. Use them! Ask questions, before you join and after you join. Their service is cost effective, whether you have a modest number of subscribers or a mega list.

Double Opt-in

As you know by your in-box, spam is a major problem on the Internet. There's wilful spam and there's spam of the more "naive" type. Even before the term "double opt-in," I asked people before adding them to a list. It was clumsy, but I did it just so that I knew my messages would be wanted. For years, I have had far too many subscribers to manage my lists manually. Now I am using the best service I've ever used.
