Behind the Scenes of this Web Site

I developed this page to explain the rationale behind some of the choices I've made for this web site. I hope it will be a learning tool for you when you're designing or re-designing your web site.

It's my intention to inspire you to make the choices that work for you, which may be very different from my own decisions. There are so many different options for web site design, for writing, for coaching, for consulting. It's so delightful that we're not all the same!

You may come to this page directly from the link in the navigation bar, or because you're interested in one particular feature or benefit on a page that has directed you here.

If you have any questions about anything presented at this web site, please feel free to ask me. A link to our contact form is at the bottom of each page on the web site.

I'm willing to be very open with you about my process of writing, web design, publishing, and anything else I think you (or some of your colleagues) might find helpful. I've had a web presence for many years and am known for providing valuable resources. You don't need to agree with what I say to find value here.  Pick what works for you and leave the rest for others.

The Resources

Many of the resources described at this site are applicable to various forms and vehicles for writing, such as books, articles, ezines, newsletters, books, blogs, and web sites. The emphasis, however, is helping you, a Professional Coach or Consultant, to enhance your writing for publication on the Internet. This site is designed to use this amazing Internet medium to spread the expressions of your unique knowledge, wisdom, and experience.

I Love to Write

I love to write. Most of the time, words and ideas just flow from my fingertips. While it's true that I can write quickly, I want to assure you that I have a great respect for re-writing, editing, spell checking, validating facts, adding meaningful quotations, trying different styles, and using language effectively. Sometimes I break the rules, but not indiscriminately. Following established rules usually keeps me out of trouble.

Throughout this site, you can find much more about me, especially my credentials on the About Us Page and my various comments sprinkled here and there, or you can visit my Empowering Personal Development site. If you're connecting with me here for the first time, you might like to get acquainted trhough my Portal of Web Sites which I developed to guide those who are searching for me by name to my various web sites.

Getting Around the Site

I have a few of the many planned subject areas in place, some only dealt with lightly. I expect to expand each of the areas over time and add new subject areas. Please bookmark the site and return often. Please sign up for our mailing list to receive announcements of changes. I read all feedback and suggestions, whether you choose to submit them anonymously or by identifying yourself.

Far Left Column. On the far left column are various resources, relevant to the site and each individual page.

At the top is the link to my free eBook, Tips to Tap the Writer in the Coach. When you request the free eBook, you'll be subscribed to a mailing list with tips to continue some of the ideas in the eBook and beyond. See more on the Tips to Tap the Writer in the Coach Page.

Social Bookmarking has become very popular, so I have selected a few of the hundreds of bookmarking sites to make it easy to select this site.

Some of the resources in this column will change from page to page. The books and eBooks are carefully chosen because I think they might be of value to you. You, of course, have to make your own decision on the value of a specific resource for you. Most are available from Amazon.com, so you can link directly from here to make your purchases.

The Google links (technically called Google AdSense) often turn up some interesting resources, thanks to the intelligence of the Google software. If something looks interesting, I encourage you to explore it. Some of the Articles on Adsense give you additional information about how the ads work.

Middle Column. This middle column is the same on each page.

I hope you like the tree of knowledge logo. I chose it to represent the knowledge in your head, the wisdom in your heart, and the roots of your unique experience. The branches represent the diversity in the world, and, in particular, the diversity in this world of coaching.

I've grouped the links into two sections. The first section helps you navigate to information about the site and me:  to find your way back to this opening page (home), to read background and reach my company and me, to join our mailing list, to find the site map, and to tell a friend about the page you're on.

The second section of links lists all the major areas of the site. Leading web designers create navigation bars with sub-sections that pop over, down, or out. In fact, I love those. However, this is one of the rules I stretch in the leading-edge web designer rule book, because I'm showing all the areas on the site as an alphabetical listing rather than a hierarchy. If this approach gets too cumbersome as an alphabetical listing, I'll find some way to group them; however, I do intend to keep all the links exposed because I think that will be easier for you and most of those drawn to this site. If you have any opinions on this, please let me know.

Since you've read this far on this very long page, you'll find that this middle column provides important "white space" (ok, it's not white, it's gradient gold) to rest the eyes. I like to honor the space between the words.

Main Content Area. This third column contains content.

In current Internet vernacular, "Content is King."  This phrase has evolved because of those working with obtaining rankings on search engines, especially Google.  It means that the artificial intelligence of Google (and other search engines) is smart enough to discern the sites that provide original content from other sites.

I've written the content throughout the site, except that many of the articles are written by others to draw on different voices, experts, and opinions. You choose those that resonate with you. I have no desire to promote sameness; through selected variety I hope to help you to streamline your process so you can recognize and express your own uniqueness.  Certain approaches work better than others, of course, and there's great value in experimenting to find the way that works for you.

As any ethical writer, I always acknowledge others' work. If you find anything of value here that you want to publish elsewhere, be certain to acknowledge the source. If you've written an article that you think belongs here, please register at the bottom of the articles page or contact me with information.

In web design vernacular, this third column is considered "fluid" while the two columns to the left are "fixed." That means that the width can be adjusted to your reading pleasure. Some people like expansive reading space, others more narrow. You choose. Most sites have either fixed or fluid. Any system works. You'll find that I've designed all my sites a little differently.

This third column on this home page is very long. That's an experiment for me. I know from my research that the prevailing viewpoint is that a particular approach works on the Internet (also in print): the long sales letter. Personally, that's not my style because integral with that approach is a belief that people are not very bright and the repetition of a few ideas to try to sell a product or service. So, this long introduction to the web site is my variation on the endless sales letter. The differences are that you have access to the rest of the site without paying a toll and I have a high regard for you.

Free eBook Offer and Writing Tips

I've written an eBook for you, Tips to Tap the Writer in the Coach. You have to provide me with a name and email address in order to receive the eBook. That is current standard practice on the Internet, often referred to as "collecting leads or prospects." Software does this effortlessly. O. K., not effortlessly, but now that everything's in place, there's little effort needed from me. I use Aweber Communications as my email delivery service.

In addition to the eBook, you'll be automatically signed up to an email list that sends you a message after three days and then every seven to ten days. This list is called Tips to Tap the Writer in You or Tips to Tap for short. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any message.

The Tips to Tap messages are designed to remind you of the resource at this web site with a link so that you can easily return, encourage you in your writing, help to build your trust in me, and serve as a soft-sell mechanism. As you get to know me and what I offer to clients, you may turn to me for coaching or consulting, or purchase some of my products, either those mentioned throughout this web site or those I've developed for my Personal Development Web Site.

I'm telling you all this because I think it's a powerful model for anyone to follow. You write your book (or use someone else's, even mine, with permission), get an auto responder and prepare regular messages. Even if that turns out to be the only writing you do, you'll have benefited greatly from this site.

eMailing Services

There are many different types of mailing services on the Internet. I've had direct experiences with many, ok, I'll be honest, too many! And so now, I arrive at the only one that I'm willing to recommend. It is Aweber Communications. Aweber has been around a long time, in Internet services time. It has an excellent reputation for those in the know. If you sign up for our mailing list, the free eBook, or any of my other ezines, you'll experience how it works.

To find more about Aweber Communication services, please check out the information page I've prepared for you.

Blogging

I had several blogs over the years. Blogging can be a powerful way for coaches and consultants to enter the Internet or complement an existing Web site. Please check out more of my thoughts on blogging for coaches and consultants.

Audio for the Web

Those who truly understand the learning process recognize that using the widest range possible helps learners and readers. Audio on the Internet has come a long way! I share some of my audio resources with you.

Books for Sale

Many books (or technically, book covers) are displayed throughout the web site, with a more substantial Books for Sale Section in the development stage. I hope you enjoy the books. If you've found others you think visitors to this site would enjoy, please contact us.

Web Hosting Information

Since this web site focuses on helping you to write for the Internet, it's logical that you have your own web site. It's not necessary, of course, but if you do, I can save you some time and effort by making a few recommendations about web hosting. If you're interested in making money from your Internet efforts, I highly recommend SiteSell, which provides you with valuable resources that focus your investment of time.

Where else can you find information?

There's a wealth of information available on the Internet. I've only scratched the surface here. Probably more accurately, I've only scratched the scratch. Some Internet searches will yield millions of results. I encourage you to search Google or any other search engine. I've done a lot of that, which you can benefit from here, but I can't address the needs of all those who land here. I can help you to focus your search.
